Dear all. We have had a letter from the TV Licensing body warning us that we are being investigated because we have a TV but no license which is correct. We (Quakers) only use the TV for blended meetings on zoom so a TV license is not needed and at the time we got it (during the pandemic) there were no groups coming into the MH. Now we have various groups coming in and have no idea what they may be watching on it. I would be grateful for the thoughts of others. We recommend to our clients that they put a clause in their T&Cs to say something like, 'this building does not have a tv license and therefore no live television can be watched on the premises.' As that covers people using the wifi to watch on their own devices. Hi Vicki, If you go to https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/topics/telling-us-you-do... you can declare that you don't need a TV licence. This will give you peace for 3 years. If you don't do this, TV Licensing will keep sending you ever more aggressive letters. They don't understand the concept of TVs being used for things like Powerpoint presentations, non-live online videos, and Zoom. So you'll have to tick the box that you only watch pre-recorded things (like DVDs), which would be the closest equivalent. If you do get a TV Licensing Officer visit you, it helps if your TV isn't tuned into any channels. Speaking from experience, tuning a TV into channels is a doddle - tuning it out of all channels can be very time-consuming, although in my case, it was well worth the effort, as I once did have someone come to my home to check. But the licensing authorities never understand that and will continually write to you to get a licence fee out of you. Putting a clause in your hiring agreement and a notice on or by the TV is a very good idea to cover yourselves anyway. The Which article tells you how to declare you don't need one. Hope that helps.
