Hello everyone Here at Jesus Lane, Cambridge we’re considering starting a system whereby we can accept contactless card payment to our weekly charities collections as well as donations for tea/coffee - lunch etc. Just wondering whether other Meetings have adopted this, what system you use and how easy it is to “tag" payments so that our book keeper knows how to allocate. Also let me apologise, I am not good at zoom and am dyslexic, I would much rather doing practical jobs like gardening, I do enjoy meeting people in person too. I agree that it's a bit prescriptive and would probably backfire, but I do also think it's reasonable to ask people not to microwave their fish lunch in the communal kitchen. (It's amazing how many people do this without thinking, and don't seem to notice that it permeates throughout the whole building.) It is possible to make it easy for people who want to try plant-based stuff by always having plant milks in the kitchen alongside the dairy milk, having vegan biscuits in the general supply (not just a tiny packet marked FOR VEGANS ONLY) for after MfW, and so on. Having open cartons of eg oat, pea, or soya milk in the fridge means that people can try it for themselves without having to commit to a full litre! In friendship, Lorna. We explored a few of the sites to get a feel for their features and what they do to promote Quakerism and our lettings businesses. The next online session will be on Friday, 15 September at 10.30am. Many meetings have started moving towards using Quaker Meeting Network, https://quaker.app/about/, and are finding the additional services that are provided with it helpful. We need websites that are: * accessible to everyone. * are easy to train a range of people to update and take responsibility for. * easy to navigate. * are nice to look at and make the user want to look for longer or at more. Photos Some of the sites are using images to help tell the story and to break up the pages. It is good to: * Have people in images. * Think about what the image is for, does it tell a story of community? Or does it help sell a room for hire? * Have an image that helps to say something that could remove some of the text from a page? * Make images that are accessible to everyone? Naming rooms on your website Why are you naming a room? * Does the Quaker community want to have a room named after a beloved Friend or a Quaker value? * Does it help to describe a space that is available for hire? * Could a number or a different name help to make the room's use clearer? Quaker Meetings Network * Lots of good support and very responsive team. * Intranet for internal AM / LM use is really helpful. * File storage helps to manage the archiving and indexing. * Easy to set up and good support and can maintain current domain. * There are some films that help set it up and good things that have been said about it. News from Sheffield Central Local Meeting

Dear Friends, I have been asked to share news from Sheffield Central Local Meeting with you all. We are sorry to have to let you know that we are closing the lettings business at Sheffield Central Quaker Meeting House. Our current lettings arrangement - sharing our Meeting House with many groups, regular and one-off users of spaces for an evening or a day - is no longer financially viable. From end September 2023 we will not be offering single session room hire. We are closing the business but not the building and Quaker Meetings and other activities will continue. If you have a booking with us over the next weeks and months you will be contacted with more detailed information. This has been a difficult decision which we have not taken lightly. We are particularly sad to be saying farewell to lots of loyal customers and to our dedicated staff team. While we are sad that we are having to make this change, we hope that this marks a new chapter for our building and our Quaker contribution to the life of the city. We welcome ideas and thoughts from individuals and organisations as we plan for the future use of our building. Hi all, At Winchester we have changed to Hallmaster, and I am very happy with it. One of the benefits is the ease of producing and sending invoices for the bookings, all within the one system. Everything is linked up - like customer details, bookings, invoices, statements etc. Support is good too. There are a few things that their software developers could work on to perfect, and they do welcome feedback, but I find it pretty straightforward to use. More efficient than using Google calendar, then transferring data to a separate invoicing system. "In my humble opinion."
