Dear Friends In light of the recent thread about security etc, and another intruder here a week last Saturday, Lancaster Friends have decided its time to investigate a door entry security system. Has anyone had a new system installed recently and if so do you have any insights that would be helpful to us? We are not staffed all the time we're open, which leaves users, staff, and the building vulnerable. We would like to have a system that allows the front door to be kept locked and hirers given codes that are individual to them, changeable, time sensitive, and the potential for staff and volunteers to have a 'dongle' allow easy access. Finances allowing, it would be even better if there were security cameras as part of the system, but not essential. I'm probably using all the wrong words as I'm 'running on empty' already this week, but hopefully you'll understand the gist. Any thoughts, suggestions, or insights would be very much appreciated. Hello Friends, Was asked if any meeting house is thinking of changing their signs for toilet facilities either in response to the ECHR guidelines or the recent statement on toilet facilities by Paul Parker at Yearly Meeting. The client who asked has a small building with two signposted bathrooms and one accessible, and has been planning a refurbishment for a couple of years. Are people thinking of moving forward to individual toilet cubicles? Has anyone already done this? In Bradford on Avon we got rid of separate 'gents' and 'ladies' toilet blocks back in 2002/03 when we had a big redevelopment, and replaced them with individual unisex toilet cubicles (3 standard, 1 accessible). Our main meeting room now stretches into the area that used to be the 'gents'. By the way, I find the phrase "self-contained, and therefore single-sex" in the linked document rather confusing. My first reaction was: shouldn't it therefore non-sex-specific? or unisex? or whatever you want to call it? Okay, after thinking it through a bit, I understand that what is meant is that if you use the self-contained cubicle for its intended purpose, it will never be used by people of more than one sex or gender at the same time - but I feel that it required a bit of twisting my brain to get there.
