Congratulations Anna - that's exciting news. Hope it all goes smoothly.

There are several volunteer RF roles I'm aware of that have only a year contract, and for both they offer accommodation. One is fully furnished (except for bed linens/towels), and the other is unfurnished, both get a reasonable number of applications.

On another note - I remember talking to wardens who had trouble convincing members of the meeting that 'maternity leave' meant not answering questions, finding stuff, and generally expecting their wardenship to continue as before. So, I might be tempted to let someone live on site for that reason and relocate somewhere without such easy access to me from work-related people.

Hi Anna

Congratulations, what exciting news!!!

I would have thought that a place to stay for a temporary cover period would be more appealing that relocating for a year and having to find somewhere to stay for just that amount of time.

But that might just be me.

Such happy news!

Dear Friends,

I'm looking for some advice about maternity cover, please!

I have been the resident warden at Winchester Quaker Meeting House since October 2023, but with a baby due in January 2026, the flat will need a new occupant (or two).

We have options when it comes to finding someone to live here, but I'm curious... if you were – or indeed are – open to 1-year fixed-term wardenship opportunities, would a residency as part of a contract make it more appealing, or less so?

Many thanks,
Anna
