Dear Ann,

As the Meeting House is due to close could the books be moved into Worfolk Cottages for the use of those staying there? If not there, Pickering or Whitby Meetings or the main library in York.

I hope the building is sold soon as a building of that age with out heating will deteriorate quite quickly.

Tessa Brown

Hi Ann,
we have a few problem areas and it is the relative humidity that you want to control more than the temperature.

Chemical dehumidifiers are available in all sorts of hardware outlets and are very inexpensive (I have just seen on Amazon 20 for £19.99, or Robert Dyas ). They suck the moisture out of the air and keep the humidity at a healthy level. They don't use electricity and once activated by pealing back the sealed cover (like a microwave meal) will last for several months.

Friends, As you are all probably aware, Scarborough Local Meeting is closed for all room hirings and
only open to Friends for Meeting for Worship, pending the building being sold.
The Meeting House boiler hasn’t worked since February 2024 and there is concern for the Library books which
are becoming damp due to the cold / lack of heating.
I think all that Friends can think of for now is that as many books as possible can be shared out and stored at
the homes of those who are able to accommodate them.

Has anyone else ever had this kind of problem?
Anyone any other ideas?

I can pass any information on to the relevant Committees.
Many thanks, Friends
Ann Turner
