In Lancaster we have 5 individual self contained toilet cubicles, 3 are on the ground floor, one of which is wheelchair accessible; none of those 5 are gender specific.  Then we have one assigned space for women with 2 cubicles and one assigned space for men, with just one cubicle.  Last year we got rid of the urinal that was in that space in order to reconfigure the area to add some storage space for Trustees documents.   I questioned why we  had specifically assigned toilets, whether we could make better use of the area the 2 rooms with a total of 3 assigned toilet cubicles etc take up and just create 3 self contained, non assigned toilets, and a kitchenette and storage space.  It was agreed that would be better use of the space, but some Friends felt it was important to retain the few assigned toilets, for those who 'needed' them.  We do not monitor, in any way whatsoever, who uses which toilets.  And I have never heard any of our users make any complaint or comment about our toilet facilities  (other than delight that they're always clean).
