Hi Lynn, Here in Bradford on Avon we use Bio-D and Ecoleaf cleaning products. We've got a local shop selling these just a few minutes walk away from the Meeting House, so tend to buy them in small quantities as refills, but I'm sure you could also order them in bulk if that's what you prefer. These sessions are open to anyone wishing to join and are an opportunity to share practice and discuss ideas that are helpful in the work of running Quaker premises and room hire businesses. This time we will be looking at some of the practical things that help workers, employees and volunteers do their roles well. Warden Maternity Cover: to live in, or not to live in?

Dear Friends, I'm looking for some advice about maternity cover, please! I have been the resident warden at Winchester Quaker Meeting House since October 2023, but with a baby due in January 2026, the flat will need a new occupant (or two). We have options when it comes to finding someone to live here, but I'm curious... if you were – or indeed are – open to 1-year fixed-term wardenship opportunities, would a residency as part of a contract make it more appealing, or less so? How do you all structure your hire charges?

Dear all, I'd love to know what structures you use for hire charges, please, and what advantages or problems you have with the systems you use. At Westminster, the building is open for hire between 7 am and 10 pm. We have ten hireable rooms (one out of commission at the mo), and loads and loads of different hirers, and so for ease of admin we have generally offered hires in three ways: - Three big ground floor rooms are offered by session: morning, afternoon and evening. You hire the whole session, regardless of how long your event is. - Five smaller rooms are offered by the day or half-day: 7 am to 3 pm/3 pm to 10 pm. - Two rooms are hired exclusively by two hirers, so are on a separate charging system. However, we're now looking at different ways to hire the five smaller rooms, as there's now so many exceptions to the standard pattern that we'd like to simplify things. So, my questions: - If you hire by the hour, even with a 2-hour minimum, do you do anything to prevent people just cherry-picking the "best" slots and leaving unuseable patches of time in between? Eg a therapist paying for 11am-1pm, then 2pm-5pm, and not paying for lunchtime. - Do you charge less for less popular times? - Have you got any different ways of structuring hire times? with all my best, Lorna. Hello Renee I think there is some confusion. I sent a copy of the Link Friend Role Description in response to a request from someone on the Wardenship E-group. There is no vacancy and this is a role that is nominated to and the role holder is then appointed by the Local Quaker Meeting through the usual Quaker nominations and business process - it is neither a paid role nor a traditional volunteering role.
