External Grant Applications and Funding

Hello If anyone out there has experience of seeking funding and making grant applications outside of other Quaker Bodies would you be able to share your experiences with me or put me in touch with people you know from your Meetings or otherwise who have experience of this Northumbria Area Meeting have a project for redeveloping an existing Meeting House, a project for maintaining and developing a grade 2 listed historical Meeting House and a potential project for a new Meeting House project. The later has nominal funds from the sale of a previous building which are held by the Area Meeting the other two currently have no allocated funds. However the Area Meeting has around £900,000 of funds that are potentially available though half of this is from the sale of the building previously mentioned. We have been advised that it is highly unlikely that we would be able to secure any external funding because of the amount of money currently being held by the Area Meeting. As well as sharing general experiences and advice of fundraising and grant applications, does anyone know who we might deal with the last point in the above. External charities

Hello Friends and colleagues, We would be interested to know if your Meetings donate to external charities, in which case how that is done. At Winchester we have in the past collected donations, on a regular basis, to pass on to chosen charities - cash, cheques or BACS. This created a lot of admin for the Treasurer, and now we have the added problem that our local bank (HSBS acting on behalf of CAF Bank) no longer accepts cash. What we are doing currently is invite Friends to donate to chosen charities, but not through our bank account, i.e. straight into the other charity's bank account. We do not know how many people do that, we have no idea how much money goes to the charities, and we don't know if the charities are aware that those donations are connected to our Meeting. We have recently bought a fund-raising card-reader, which can allow for donations to be earmarked for specific purposes, but we are not using it for external charities. If any of your Meetings passes donations on to external charities, it would be great to hear about your process for that, and if it works well. Dear Friends, Some HSBC branches closed their cash counters some time ago and now only accept cheques with a paying in slip for CAF bank. CAF now say: https://www.cafonline.org/docs/default-source/charity-finance-and-fundraisi… 'Receiving money You can receive money into your CAF Cash Account by online or electronic transfer, or by cash or cheque at any counter-service HSBC Branch in the UK if your sort code begins with 40, or at any counter-service RBS Branch in the UK if your sort code begins with 83. You can also pay in at any Post Office in the UK' CAF Bank can send new cash paying in books to use at the Post Office. which are bar-coded (and apparently can be used to pay cash in at HSBC as well at branches that still accept cash). CAF Bank can also send envelopes so that cheques can be paid in at the Post Office. [Being able to pay cash directly to accounts means it may be possible to claim Gift Aid using the 'Gift Aid small donations scheme (GASDS)', when all the conditions are met, but not for external charities.] Best wishes, Alice Alice Baxter Banbury Friends Meeting House premises committee

Thanks everyone for all of your excellent advice on this. Just one thing to add from my perspective is that all employees are employed at AM level. You need to work with trustees on employment to ensure that employees doing similar work are treated the same and paid equally (that can be done within a pay scale to recognise experience etc.) The same contracts should be in place across the AM and if roles are the same the same job descriptions should also be in use.
